40 Pages, illustration of ‘Mrs Robb's house, Jacobsdal, Shewing Maxim Bullet Marks in Corrugated Iron Roof' on the back cover, printed brown light card covers, a very good copy.

A South African Bibliography, volume 4, page 49, 'A diary of four and half months spent in Jacobsdal, O.F.S. during the South African War.

Jacobsdal is a small village in the Orange Free State about thirty miles south-east in Kimberley. Her husband, away on business and unable to return to the Free State for fear of being commandeered for goods or personal service, Mrs Robb decided to stay in what she describes as 'this intensely Dutch village.' Although not trained, she volunteered at the local hospital as a nurse and attended the wounded - Boer, British and African. She comments interestingly on life in the town during the occupation by the Boer forces and upon her work in the hospital which, for some of the time, was taken over by a German ambulance which she describes as being 'fully equipped with all the latest improvements.' The hospital received wounded from the major battles which took place in the area including Magersfontein.
