Profusely illustrated with 83 photos, 49 drawings, 4 colour drawings and coloured fold out map to first volume; 81 drawings, 28 photos, 2 colour drawings and coloured fold out map to the second volume. Both volumes in original dark green pictorial cloth bindings. Gilt vignettes to the front boards.

Between 1893 and 1897 the Swedish geographer Sven Hedin set out from Sweden to explore Central Asia, crossing through Northern Tibet, Russia, the Gobi Desert, and many more beautiful places.Hedin is notable for making the Transhimalaya known in the West, and for locating the sources of the Brahmaputra, Indus, and Sutlej Rivers
