William Leonard Hunt was a Canadian who used the
pseudonym Guillermo Farini and was one of the first
westerners to cross the unexplored portion on the
Kalahari. On his return to Europe, he published a book
detailing his experiences which included descriptions of
unusual rock formations which he believed to be ruins of
hitherto unknown buildings. The publication of the book
is thought to have given rise to the search for the fabled lost
city of the Kalahari.
