G.A. Farini (real name William Leonard Hunt), in a small group which included his son 'Lulu' who took the pictures, explored the Kalahari in search of diamonds, cattle ranching areas, scientific information and adventure. Finding it, from his description of the 'Lost City of the Kalahari', has been the reason for many later expeditions into that area. A bit of a showman (he once walked across the Niagra falls on a tightrope), Farini may have exaggerated some of his finds, but his writing is a great contribution to books on exploration in Southern Africa.
