First London Edition: 353 pages, frontispiece portrait and 13 plates – including a birds-eye view and a plan of the New York Zoological Park. Original green cloth with gilt titling on the spine the cloth is dull, insect scarred and chipped at the top and bottom of the spine, top edge gilt other edges uncut – some pages unopened, contents bright.  Fair copy.

Czech: An annotated Bibliography of African Big Game hunting Books, 1785 to 1950, page 67/68, ‘This anthology of big game hunting exploits includes a chapter by William Lord Smith entitled “An African Shooting Trip.” Accompanied by A. Donaldson Smith, the author trekked into Abyssinia where elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard, oryx, and hartebeest were bagged.’

There is a list of the officers and members of the Boone and Crockett Club at the end of the book. Grinnell and Roosevelt comprised the Editorial Committee.

First London edition – first published in New York by Forest and Stream Publishing Company in 1897.
