The Halse family book plate on the front paste down. Robin Halse was well known in South African hunting circles and his daughter, Jane, runs Rowland Ward Publications. Robin recorded his purchase of this book with his name and the date, 1950, on the half title page. Original light brown cloth boards with gilt tiling and a decoration on the spine and the upper board. Black end papers. xviii prelims, 503 pages, followed by 4 pages of the publisher's advertisements, 23 full page black and white illustrations including the frontis and 35 in text illustrations, folding coloured map.
CONDITION DETAILS: Although the binding has some edge wear and the spine is darkened, it is still an attractive example. A few pages and illustrations have a light stain on the bottom right hand side corner. Minor blemishes: There are several signs of use and wear, but the overall appearance is good and attractive.
