Two volume set. Bound in a period binding with with leather spines and corners with gilt decorations on the spines. Red title labels on the spines and marbled paper boards. Later brown end papers.

Volume one has an engraved frontis portrait of the author, engraved vignette title page, viii prelims, 341 pages and a large folding map at the rear.

Volume two has a coloured lithographic frontispiece with a tissue guard, engraved vignette title page, vi prelims and 347 pages.

CONDITION DETAILS: When this set was rebound the original end papers as well as the publisher's advertisements were discarded. Otherwise complete. The front paste downs of both volumes have marks indicating the removal of book plates. The frontispiece and title page of volume one are loose. The map has a short closed tear. The upper board of volume two is bowed.
