Translated from the French of M. le Vaillant.

 Illustrated with twelve elegant copper-plates. 

2 volumes: I. xii, 395; II. 403 pages, 12 engraved plates – 2 folding (including the plate at page 350 in volume II of ‘A Hottentot woman’ which is sometime referred to as the ‘suppressed’ plate), a late nineteenth century folding chromolithographic of Victoria Falls has been tipped in opposite page 82 in volume I, no half title pages as called for, ‘Directions to Binder’ at page 404 in volume II, contemporary full calf sides rebacked and with leather title labels. The old leather sides are worn along the edges, the contents are crisp and free of foxing.
