'This work is an authoritative study in two volumes of the 200 trees of the Kruger National Park and is likely to rank among the most important books published in the botanical field in South Africa.
The National Parks Board has set this project in motion to establish a permanent record of the trees of the Kruger Park. But at the same time this work serves as an indispensable guide to the visitor to the Kruger. Distribution maps are given for each species of tree, in which the common varieties are given a general location while for the rare species individual trees have been indicated.
Each species is illustrated photographically in colour by means of a full picture of each tree in its natural environment and subsidiary pictures of the pod, bark and flower. Each tree is described in full and scientific details and the author provides much other fascinating information: on herbal uses, African lore, etc.
This work stands as a valuable contribution to our appreciation of nature as well as being a source of pure scientific information. It will delight everyone seriously interested in the preservation of our South African flora and fauna.' - editor's note
