The author joined the Cape Mounted Rifles, 1879, and saw service in Basutoland, the Cape Colony, and Matabeleland, etc, etc., while he contributes two chapters relating his experiences as a captain in Mounted Regiments of Irregulars in the South African War, 1899-1902.
