Lobengula, (born c. 1836, Mosega, Transvaal, c. 1894, near Bulawayo, Rhodesia. He was the second and last king (1870–94) of the Southern African Matabele nation. Lobengula—the son of the founder of the Ndebele kingdom, Mzilikazi was unable to prevent his kingdom from being destroyed by the British in 1893.
