Two original signed cheques (Nederlandsche Bank voor Zuid Afrika, Kaapstad) by F.W.Reitz, ex president of the Orange Free State.  The first cheque for 27 pounds and 17 shillings is made out to Ontvanger van Inkomste (Receiver of Revenue) and dated 16 Maart 1933. Both cheques are endorsed on the back.

Francis William Reitz, Jr. (Swellendam, 5 October 1844 - 27 March 1934) was a South African lawyer, politician, statesman, publicist, and poet who was a member of parliament of the Cape Colony, Chief Justice and fifth State President of the Orange Free State, State Secretary of the South African Republic at the time of the Second Boer War, and the first president of the Senate of the Union of South Africa. He was a signatory of the Treaty of Vereeniging at the end of the Boer War. He was the father of Deneys Reitz and brother-in-law of W.P. Schreiner (see Lot 164 - the Deneys Reitz letter on this sale).

An uncommon autograph and the cheques are both in fine condition.
