vii, 232 pages: portraits (1 as frontispiece). Cloth, dust wrapper browned on spine & frayed along edges. Some browning to endpapers. Some spotting to page edges, otherwise a good, tight copy.

Signed & dated (Xmas /29) inscription "in memory of happier days" from A. Lukin to Brigadier-General Ronald Charles Grant and his wife.

Accompanied by a portrait of General Lukin, laid down down on board and enclosed in a folder.

Lukin saw action in the Zulu War, and in all Southern African campaigns in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the South African Wars of 1880-1881 and 1899-1902. The Grants were good friends of Tim Lukin, who was their daughter's godfather, and Grant was also in the Cape Mounted Rifles.
