28 pages, 9 colour plates, other black and white and colour illustrations, brown paper cover boards, black cloth spine with black ribbon marker, the upper board is cut out to show a decorative beaded piece of jewellery threaded on a large safety pin with the initials DAG on it, 10 colour postcards of items housed in the collection are loosely inserted in a pocket at the back of the book, a very good copy.

Umbukiso (Zulu) means exhibition, show, something to look at. The book describes the history, collections and the aims and objectives of the Durban Art Museum.

In 1892 Durban's harbour engineer Cathcart William Methven donated a painting 'Durban Bay from Claremont' to the Town Council of Durban which was to become the first acquisition of the Durban Art Gallery. The character of the Gallery's collection which subsequently developed had a marked European flavour until the mid-1970s when the focus moved closer to home. Only in the post-Apartheid era have the Gallery’s collection and exhibitions come to represent accurately the art being produced in Southern Africa. The Gallery's primary concern is the collection, curatorship and exhibition of traditional and contemporary art. http://www.museumsofkzn.co.za/durban%20art%20gallery.html
