The first edition of this double issue of Verve devoted entirely to the works of Henri Matisse as produced in Vence between 1944 and 1948. Folio. In the original boards with striking black and yellow lithographic dustwrapper by Matisse and an original Matisse lithograph as frontispiece. With numerous colour illustrations and black and white Matisse drawings on opposing pages. This is a very good plus clean unmarked copy apart from some brown tape marks on the dustwrapper flaps and the free endpapers.     

Verve was a modernist Parisian art magazine published byTeriade between 1937 and 1960. The magazine was first published in December 1937. The headquarters of the magazine was in Paris. It published 38 issues in 10 volumes including lithographs by the most prominent artists of the Parisian art scene of the first half of the 20th century. In addition the early contributors included James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway.
