x, (i directions for binding of the plates), (i blank), 260 pages, folding aquatint frontispiece, ‘The Great Volcano of Peli, at Hawaii, folding chart of the voyage, 8 aquatint plates, 3 engraved portraits, plan of the volcano, 1 text woodcut, half dark brown calf with cloth sides, red title label on the spine, marbled edges and endpapers. The leather is splitting at the top of the front joint and is worn along the edges and at the corners, the contents and plates are foxed throughout.

Forbes (Editor) Hawaiian National Bibliography 1780-1830, (1999, Page 437. no. 630, 'This voyage was termed by Peter Buck (Ti Rangi Hiroa) "One of the most gracious acts that one country has ever extended to another." Kamehameha ll of Hawaii and his queen, Kamamalu, were on a visit to London in 1824 when they both died of the measles, for which they had no immunity. This voyage, with the cousin of the poet Lord George Gordon Byron in command, was undertaken by the British government specifically to return their bodies to the Hawaiian Islands.'
