Scarce and incredibly detailed record of one of the lesser known arenas of naval conflict in WW2, most of which provides information on the defence of the South African coastline, and the operations carried out there, including the monitoring of German U-Boats, Gruppe Seehund, Gruppe Eisbär, Graf Spee, S.A.A.F operations, the Agulhas minefield, ships calling at Durban and Cape Town, as well as a comprehensive list of ships sunk, details of Indian Ocean traffic, and with multiple detailed fold-out maps, charts and references for period 1939-43. First Edition. 8vo. blue boards, 288pp, 42 maps and charts, 36pp b&w photos, title on spine in gilt, some browning to end-papers, previous owner\'s name on f.f.e.p., a clean unmarked and tight copy.
