Mendelssohn Sidney South African Bibliography. volume 2, pages 197-8, 'An account of the publication of a paper issued in Bloemfontein, under the auspices of the military authorities, and edited by Messrs. Julian Ralph, Landon, Gwynne and Rudyard Kipling. Twenty-seven numbers were published, after which the paper was taken over by the staff of the Johannesburg Star. Contributions were made to the journal by several celebrated authors (including Conan Doyle), artists and journalists, and Mr Ralph observes, "in all the wealth of English literature, I know of no such mirror-reflecting and phonograph-echoing of soldier life as is here"'.
