The free front end paper has an inscription to a Mrs. Keppel that is signed and dated. The loose sheet with the 5, Oakley Street, Chelsea address is initialled by the author. Original green coloured buckram boards with gilt titling on the spine and a decoration on the upper board. xvi prelims, 323 pages, 60 black and white plates by R. Caton Woodville after photographs by the author, followed by 4 pages of the publisher's advertisements. CONDITION DETAILS: The binding has a little wear and soiling and large areas of the original green colour have faded to a yellowish green colour. The front hinge has been repaired with a piece of white tape. The foxing on the text pages varies from fairly clean to severe, such as the title page, see image. The plates are clean and do not have foxing, but have some toning. The plates are no longer a pure crisp, white colour, but have a little browning which ranges from barely noticeable to obvious, but cannot be described as a major flaw.
