Original green cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine and a white and black elephant design in a circle on the upper board. Top edge gilt. xxxi prelims,782 pages, black and white photographic illustrations.
CONDITION DETAILS: Halse family book plate on the front free end paper. Robin Halse was well known in the hunting fraternity and his daughter, Jane, runs Rowland Ward Publications. The front hinge is detached, with only the rear hinge holding the binding onto the text block. The head and tail of the spine are worn with some loss of surface. The left hand edge of the upper board - see image - has a 1 cm long abrasion with the green cloth ripped. Pen name on half title page. Some pages of the text block have a light stain at the bottom corner, probably caused by damp/water as a few page corners are lightly stuck together, but the bulk of the text and illustrations are clean enough for this book to deserve a place on the shelf as a working copy of a magnificent collection of photographic images of old Africa.
