A sixteen page pamphlet with light age-associated wear along the edges.
"The Advance Reviewed by an Eye Witness" with some sensational headlines on the front panel, including:
President Steyn's Villainy unmasked by the Boers. Receives £50,000 Blood Money. Afrikander Bond as an Ally. Free Staters Demoralised to the Point of Mutiny. Confessions of a C.M.R., a Gunner in the Boer Army.
And then declaring in capitals "THE END OF THE WAR AT HAND" (the war only ended two years later).
Publisher's notice reads: "The Army of Newspaper War Correspondents, or "Press Hussars," to which rank the late Bismarck raised the members of the fourth estate, although seriously handicapped by the Press Censor, no doubt nobly acquitted themselves of the task of supplying the public with the news from the theatre of War. To the most enterprising amongst them, the ins and the outs of the doings of the Boers remained, however, a sealed book, and the perusal of these pages, giving the experiences of a former C.M.R. during the ten weeks he was compelled to serve in the Boer ranks, before accomplishing his escape, may therefore prove of interest."
