A personal memoir of a 19th century life in service as a military man, and later as a magistrate, mainly in the Eastern Cape, and including taking part in many military events with the Frontier Armed Mounted Police (FAMP, joined in 1855) and the Cape Mounted Rifles (CMR). This provides interesting insights into the times. He saw service throughout the Eastern Cape, Free State, and Basutoland.
