Morrison served in D Battery of the Royal Canadian Artillery, He did not initially see much service as they followed Roberts through the Karoo but his unit advanced into the Eastern Transvaal under Hamilton as far as Belfast and he provides interesting comment on this, less well known, part of the campaign. An observant officer, he writes with a wry view on the war. He sketched Boer babies at the request of their mothers knowing that the sketches would be smuggled through British lines to their fathers serving 'on the other side'.
