202 pages, blue and white cloth over bevelled boards with regimental device embossed in gold on the upper cover, spine is frayed at the top and bottom, slight foxing on the preliminary pages, the upper cover soiled, otherwise the contents are good.
Hackett (R.G.) South African War Books An Illustrated Bibliography page 58: The regiment arrived in South Africa in early December 1899, taking part in the battle of Colenso and other engagements for the relief of Ladysmith. From August 1900 to the close of that year the regiment was chiefly employed along the Standerton - Newcastle line. In 1901 the 13th Hussars were brought to western Transvaal and employed near Klerksdorp. They later operated east of Pretoria under Brigadier-Gen. G. Hamilton and other commanders. The record includes a casualty list and a list of honours gained.
The XIII Hussars took part in the operations leading up to the relief of Ladysmith and Buller's advance into the Transvaal. There are rolls of the dead and wounded and a roll of Honours.
Signed at the top of the title page by Major T.B. Phillips 11.8.00 to 1.5.03 who is listed a commanding B Squadron of the Reserve Squadron as Captain Phillips as it left Aldershot in November 1899.
