Hackett (R.G.) South African War Books: An Illustrated Bibliography, page 58: The regiment arrived in South Africa in early December 1899, taking part in the battle of Colenso and other engagements for the relief of Ladysmith. From August 1900 to the close of that year the regiment was chiefly employed along the Standerton - Newcastle line. In 1901 the 13th Hussars were brought to western Transvaal and employed near Klerksdorp. They later operated east of Pretoria under Brigadier-Gen. G. Hamilton and other commanders.
