Beautiful edition of Irma Stern\'s journal about her travels to Zanzibar (1939 and 1944).

The rafia bound copy has an attractive purple-lined binding.

104 pages, full page and other illustrations throughout, original multicolour raffia back, brown cloth-covered boards titled on upper cover, bookplate on the front paste-down end paper.

\"I am living in an old Arab house opposite the mosque called the Sultan\'s mosque. It is pale blue and cool looking, with long stone rest-banks on which the pious seem to spend their days and nights.\"

Stern chose Arab Priest as the opening illustration for Zanzibar, showing it was regarded as one of the best works produced during her Zanzibar period: \"The most distinguished Arab – \'the truly wise and religious father\' – is dressed in pure white robe with a white turban around his white skull cap.\"

The painting was sold at Bonhams in March 2011 for a world record £3m.

A stunning edition of the famous travel journal by one of South Africa\'s finest artists.

Number 6 of 150 copies.
