Fully illustrated throughout in colour with photographs illustrating all aspects of the country, its people, wildlife, industries, etc. Faux leather binding of black spine and burgundy boards with gilt ruling and lettering. A special presentation copy, with gilt commemorative stamp on front board: "State Visit of President R. G. Mugabe United Kingdom 1994, With the Compliments of LONRHO".
With the posthumous ex libris bookplate of Winston Churchill's daughter, Mary Soames mounted onto the inner front board. Mary Soames husband, Christopher, served as the interim Governor of Southern Rhodesia from 1979 to 1980. As part of the Lancaster House Agreement, Soames administered Southern Rhodesia after it renounced its Unilateral Declaration of Independence and shepherded it to internationally recognised independence as Zimbabwe. From 1979 to 1981 he was Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Lords under Margaret Thatcher concurrent with his duties in Rhodesia.
