A reconstruction of the battle using evidence from official blue book reports and 'Narrative of Field Operations Connected with The Zulu War' prepared by the War Office and published in 1881; also using eye-witness accounts by survivors of Rorke's Drift, and some Zulu evidence. When the author visited the battlefield in 1947 he interviewed a Zulu over eighty years old, who had taken part in the fight as a young warrior in the Nkobamakosi regiment. Material also sourced from Norris Newman's unofficial narrative entitled 'In Zululand With The British' published in London in 1880. With 9 plates and 4 maps. Book condition: very good, edges slightly foxed, grey boards bumped at corners, gilt spine title faded. Includes a loosely inserted picture of the above-mentioned Zulu warrior, with the author, either from this, or some other publication.
