Frans Martin Claerhout (1919 - 2006) was a Roman-Catholic priest and painter. He was born in Belgium but lived most of his life in South Africa. He was head of the Saint Francis Mission at Thaba Nchu (Free State Province). His original works of art are popular in Germany, Belgium, Canada, the USA, and United Kingdom. Most of his works depict either the daily life of rural black South African people or religious themes.
