This is an ex-library book.

The new red leather and marbled paper binding dates from around a hundred years after the date of publication. It has an attractive leather spine with gilt tiling and rules on either side of the raised bands and the hand marbled paper covering the boards is a pretty pink colour. viii prelims, list of plates, 342 pages and 14 hand colored lithographic plates by J.G. Keulemans. When this book was re-bound Plate iv was moved from facing page 112 to opposite the title page as the frontispiece and given a new and rather opaque tissue guard.

CONDITION DETAILS: The binding has some edge wear and stain marks on the spine. New end papers. The front paste down has some abrasion marks, possibly caused by the removal of a library sticker. There is a library number written in pen on the preface page. Pen date written next to the Roman numeral date. Some pages have short edge tears. There are a few dirty finger marks. Overall, a well restored copy with new tissue guards, very little foxing and soiling, and few corner creases.
