Educated at King Edward VII School and Wits, Bradlow’s lifelong passion for collecting Africana began in 1938 while working in Rhodesia. Following distinguished World War II service in the Imperial Light Horse, he became a pillar of Cape Town’s cultural and academic communities, serving on the University of Cape Town Council for nearly twenty years.
Published by A.A. Balkema in 1975, this work offers an essential, comprehensive impression of nineteenth-century South African art, artists, and general written and pictorial Africana.
This specific lot is the Deluxe Collectors' Edition, limited to only 100 copies. It is numbered (#6) and signed by Frank Bradlow on the certification/preliminary page.
