First edition: 70 pages of letterpress followed by 39 colour and black & white plates tipped onto stiff card with captions on the guards, 10 colour and black & white figures in the text, fawn buckram cloth with a vignette on the upper cover, the cloth is spotted, top edge dyed brown, a very good copy.

Hugo Obermaier (1877–1946) A prominent German archaeologist and anthropologist, famed for his work on European Upper Palaeolithic cave art (like Altamira).

Herbert Kühn (1895–1980): A German philosopher, prehistorian, and art historian who specialized in prehistoric art.

Bushman Art was a pioneering work which broadened the scope of global art history but whose interpretive framework is now outdated due to advancements in dating techniques, linguistic evidence, and anthropological theory. Its primary enduring value is as a historical record of the condition of the sites and the early interpretations of the paintings.
