First edition, second impression: 331 pages, maps as end papers, red cloth faded and worn, split at the bottom edge of the spine on the upper cover, titled gilt on the spine, a very good copy.
With a newspaper cartoon of Reitz by Boonzaier pasted opposite the title page.
The first edition was published in October 1929 and the Second impression in November of the same year.
Inscribed on the half title page: 'Dr E.E. Mossop with my best regards Deneys Reitz April 1930'
Dr Mossop was a founder member of the Van Riebeeck Society (now The Historical Publications Society) in 1918 and he was responsible for six of its published volumes as well several of his own books. A medical doctor he retired in the late 1930's to devote himself to his historical research. He died in 1957 at the age of 77.
