'Rather an interesting narrative, part of which has been contributed by other writers. There are several songs (with musical score), poems, and many illustrations which are not to be met with in other works. Amongst the latter is a portrait of Joubert in his tent, with Botha sitting beside him, probably the last photograph of the elder Boer Commander-in-chief ever executed, as it is observed that it was taken shortly before his death. Another interesting portrait is that of "Hans Cordua," who - according to the inscription - was murdered by the British on a charge of forming a plot against Lord Roberts' life in Pretoria.' - Mendelssohn Vol.II, page 185
