First Edition: 55, (ii) pages, original black cloth titled gilt on the spine and with Van Wyk Louw's signature in gilt embossed on the upper cover, slightly frayed and worn dust jacket, a very good copy.

Inscribed on the front free endpaper ‘Vir my dogtertjie Koekoe, toe sy 'n groot dogter geword het, in Amsterdam, 1.1.1953. Van haar Papsie,’ his pet name for Maria Johanna ‘Ria’.

Also with the bookplate of Ampie Muller on the verso of the half title page who became Van Wyk Louw's son-in-law. Ria died in 1964 aged 32.
