From the Preface: 'Once more are we called upon to introduce to the public of the "Fighting Port," and of the Border Districts generally, another issue of our now well-known Directory and Year Book, and we are pleased to be able to do so, and at the same time to congratulate ourselves upon having achieved another satisfactory advance in the production of the most accurate and reliable guide yet published with reference to the extended territory with which it deals. Each succeeding year enables us to spot some features in which it may be possible to improve upon the issue preceding, and all such indications are promptly seized upon and made to contribute to the value of the work as a whole. Accuracy is our first aim, and we spare no expense in the pursuit of this ideal.
