2 volumes ([4], xc [i.e. lxxx], 518; [4], 542 pages), recently rebound in modern half calf, remarkably clean inside, very good.

Posthumous compilation of political and rhetorical writings attributed to Honoré-Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau (1749-1791), the celebrated orator of the early French Revolution. Published several years after Mirabeau's death, it reflects an effort to preserve and interpret Mirabeau’s political legacy during the unsettled years of the Directory and retrospectively construct him as a model of statesmanship and public eloquence. The present work presents his political ideas in a form intended as a practical handbook for statesmen, publicists, officials, and speakers during a turbulent time when political fortunes rose and fell with the wind.
