A party of Jesuit priests from the Zambesi Mission arrived at Gubuluwayo on 2 September 1879. The two Belgian fathers described their long journey via ox-cart from Grahamstown to Tai (through the Cape Colony and Bechuanaland) where they set up a base before they went on to King Lobengula's Gubuluwayo, where they established themselves. Of interest is their account of Matabele history, customs and ceremonies, and life at Lobengula's court.
