First UK edition. 2 volumes. Volume 1 - xviii, 420 pages, volume 11, x, 421 to 798 (continuous pagination), frontispieces - photogravure from drawings by Philip R. Godwin, numerous plates, 40 maps - 2 in colour, top edge gilt, others uncut, original brown cloth titled gilt on the spines and titled gilt and illustrated on the upper cover, a very good set.

Czech (Dr Kenneth) An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books, 1785 to 1999, page 239: Published four years after the well-publicized Smithsonian African expedition, which Roosevelt headed and Heller accompanied, this massive work details the species bagged on that adventure, as well as other specimens taken on safaris by the likes of Rainey, Tjader, Powell-Cotton, and others. While most of the text is of a zoological nature, there are plenty of hunting anecdotes supplied by the authors and such note-worthies as A.E. Pease. The numerous maps show game distribution in Africa, and there is a good bibliography of sporting, natural history, and exploration works.'
