A piece of Johannesburg's social and architectural history, compiled by the legendary South African historian and broadcaster, Eric Rosenthal. This work chronicles the life, glamour, and legacy of the grand old Carlton Hotel, which originally opened its doors in February 1906, served as the epicentre of luxury for decades, and was eventually demolished in 1963. 


This specific copy is a Signed, Limited Edition, numbered #396 of only 500 copies. It was specially prepared and presented on the historic occasion of the opening of the new Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg on 21 November 1972.


The limitation page is signed by the compiler, Eric Rosenthal, making this an elite acquisition for collectors of Johannesburg history, hospitality memorabilia, and Africana.
