MEMOIRS OF MR. GISQUET
Former Prefect of Police
As told by himself

Henri Joseph Gisquet was a French banker, industrialist, senior civil servant and politician born in Vezin (former Moselle , current Meurthe-et-Moselle ) onJuly 14, 1792 and died in Paris on January 23, 1866. Prefect of police in Paris from 1832 to 1836, during a period marked by strong political and social unrest, then sitting in the Chamber of Deputies from 1837 to 1839, he was a leading figure of the July Monarchy .

Published in the early 1840s, his multi-volume memoirs detail his career and police work, particularly during the July Monarchy.

Gisquet’s memoirs, written from his own perspective, are titled Mémoires de M. Gisquet, ancien préfet de police, écrits par lui-même. In which Gisquet recounts his experiences and the events of his time as head of the Parisian police force. The writings offer a unique, if biased, perspective on law enforcement and public order in Paris in the 1830s.

The work is considered culturally significant for preserving historical information about French police and political life.
