The first edition of this book (In Dutch) - 'The war experiences of a Transvaal Boer. A short account of events in Natal precedes a narrative of the guerilla campaign in the Transvaal. The author, the husband of Johanna Brandt, was taken prisoner in 1901 and shipped to India' - Hackett pp.63. The English edition was published the following year in 1902.
This is an interesting (and probably uncommon) variant of the first edition. Several copies of this title have been sold on Antiquarian Auctions. These copies were bound in full decorated cloth. The copy on offer is bound in 1/4 cloth over decorated paper covered boards with a paper tile label on the spine. The cover illustration on both versions is identical as is the title page, pagination etc. 8vo. 217pp. It would be interesting to know which issue preceded.
There are two previous owner's names neatly written on the front pastedown, otherwise this is a very clean bright very good plus copy with only slight rubbing of the fore edge of the rear board. it is bright and tight with no foxing whatsoever.
