Former copy of Sgt. Major Stan Chapman from the Transvaal Scottish Regiment. His name stamp is on the inner cover of both the front and rear boards.
In an accompanying letter the photographer and wrapper designer, Arthur Bowland, responds to a query by Sgt. Major Chapman regarding the cover of the book, he writes:
"Dear Mr. Chapman,
Your letter regarding the cover of the book is easily answered.
The 'model' is in fact the author, who I admit, was bullied into posing. I also need to admit I stole the barbed wire from around Natal Command but you will not be interested in such detail.
Old friend Newman Robinson is now retired on the family farm outside Estcourt. Last address was this, Box 320, Estcourt 3310.
Kind regards
Arthur Bowland."
'Natal Command' which Bowland refers to in the letter is the Regimental HQ in Durban.
