Copyright 1932 by the Psyche Press. Facsimile edition of the Society of British Bibliophiles, 1900. First published in Germany in 1840. 8vo (167mm x 245mm x 37mm). Bound in cloth covered boards; covers in orange/brownish cloth; spine in black cloth with titling in gilt. Text block fore and bottom edge untrimmed; top edge trimmed. Hinges firm, internally firmly bound. xv, (1) blank, 326pp, (2) blank. With, in black/white, 12 out-text full-page, blank on verso, illustrations, including frontispiece.

Description of life in a 19th Century House of Correction in South Germany. The “welcomes” and the “farewells,” were in addition to any corporal punishment ordered by a court or by the prison governor.

Condition: Good-very good. Slight rubbing to boards and spine, light sunning to spine, and slight smudges/stains to boards. Publisher’s label on front pastedown. Two small stains to rear endpaper and pastedown. Pages cut. A couple of instances of light splitting to gutters between pages. Text is clean. Still well bound. Book comes with protective clear plastic jacket. Please also see photos.
