Catholic Missions in Zimbabwe's Liberation War
The Catholic Church in Zimbabwe was an active participant in Zimbabwe's war of liberation. This book is one of the first inside reports of what took place behind the scenes at remote rural missions where guerrillas and church personnel came into contact on a daily basis.
The author, a Maryknoll Sister, worked with the Justice & Peace Commission in 1977 in Rhodesia before she was arrested and deported. She then went to work in the ZANU camps in Mozambique.
The study is based on four Catholic missions whose experience during the war differed in many respects. It examines challenging and difficult questions of ideology, ethics and morality and does not hesitate to critique both the Church and liberation movements.
It is intended for all those concerned about religion and politics. Written in a direct and accessible style, it should appeal historians, theologians, political scientists, church personnel and the ordinary reader alike.
