Czech (Dr. Kenneth) An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785 – 1999, page 287: Treatt tried his hand at hunting elephant with a spear along the upper reaches of the Nile, concluding that "there is more sportsmanship in attacking an elephant with a spear than in shooting it with a high-precision rifle..." (!) There is however one chapter on hunting elephant with a rifle, another on lion.
