Giovanni “Johnny” Lurani Cernuschi, VIII Count of Calvenzano (1905 – 1995) was an Italian automobile engineer, racing car driver and journalist. Lurani studied engineering at the Politecnico di Milano and raced cars such as Salmson, Derby, Alfa Romeo and Maserati, participating eleven times in the Mille Miglia. He took class wins in the event three times: 1933 in an MG K3, 1948 in a Healey and 1952 in a Porsche.
After partaking in the second Italo-Abyssinian War, Lurani founded the racing team Scuderia Ambrosiana in 1937 along with Luigi Villoresi and Franco Cortese in 1937. Sustaining a bad hip injury in a Maserati 4CM at Crystal Palace, Lurani ended his single-seater career in 1938 but continued racing sportscars until 1953.

Nuvolari, Caracciola, Lang, Seaman, Rosemeyer, Fangio and Moss are all covered, as is Mercedes' involvement with the disastrous 1955 Le Mans race."

4. Champion Year- Mike Hawthorn

Published shortly before Hawthorn's death in 1959, it recounts his battle with Stirling Moss for the title. The book is a first-hand account of the 1958 season, which was marked by both triumph when he was the first British driver to win World Champion as well as and personal tragedy. Known as "The Farnham Flyer" and for racing in a bow tie, Hawthorn competed for teams including Ferrari and Jaguar, winning three Grands Prix and the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans.
