First Edition: 220 pages, numerous plates and illustrations, original green cloth gilt, photograph laid down on upper cover, coat of arms of the Transvaal Republic embossed in on back cover, a very good copy.
The core of the book is Brink's first-hand account of life in the Diyatalawa and Ragama prisoner of war camps in Ceylon. The work illustrates the deepened anti-British feelings among the prisoners, fuelled by the captivity and the harsh tactics employed by the British in South Africa for example Kitchener's farm-burning campaigns.
