(HISTORICAL RELATIONSHIP OF THE FAMOUS ARMY AND NAVY INVASION OF FRANCE IN CATALONIA IN 1285
And the brave resistance that the Catalans, Aragonese and Valencians, with their King Don Pedro made to the enemies in the Rosellón and the Empordán by land and sea.

--------------------

The French invasion of Catalonia in 1285 was a great military campaign by King Philip III of France (known as Philip III "the Daring") against the Crown of Aragon, motivated by the conflict of the Crown of Aragon with Charles of Anjou and the dispute for control of Sicily. The campaign failed miserably due to Catalan-Aragonese-Valencian resistance, led by King Pedro III of Aragon, and a dysentery epidemic that decimated the French army. The conflict took place on the Rosellón and the Empordà, and resulted in a crushing victory for the Aragonese forces, with the invasion repelled.

The invasion was a response to the Aragonese intervention in Sicily. Pope Martin IV had declared a crusade against Peter III of Aragon, allying himself with France.

In 1285, the French army, led by Philip III, invaded Catalan territory. The French were arrested in the Rosellón and the Empordán, where they suffered a great defeat.

The Catalan, Aragonese and Valencian forces, under the command of Pedro III, bravely resisted on land and sea, inflicting enormous casualties on French troops.

The invasion was a disaster for France, which lost a significant part of its army due to both the battles and an epidemic of dysentery that caused a great mortality. The campaign failed and Philip III had to withdraw. The conflict strengthened the position of Peter III and the Crown of Aragon.

Rosselló is a  historical county and comarca (district) in what is now northern Catalonia, part of France.  Empordàn  is a natural and historical region in the Province of Garona, Catalonia, Spain.
