Diary of Trip to England & france; Some Facts x Fancies ; June 24 to Sept. 16, 1905.
87 pages manuscript detailing his passage on the steamship Philadelphia, noting on the first page “passagers seemed to be pleasant. - a negro company of Baptist preachers were with us - amusing , but not offensive . - they were on their way to the great conference to be held in London.” The daily entries relate to days spent at sea, his visits to the landmarks and sports venues, the British museum where he saw the Rosetta Stone.
The rest of the notebook is filled with newspaper clippings and programs pertaining to the trip as well as several seat tickets for cricket matches and St. Paul’s cathedral memorial service held on the burial of John Hay, Secretary of the United States.
Square Octavo, half cloth and marbled paper over boards, front cover detached. The first paste down bears a silver print of Stryker.
